A packed show even more than previous years!
CBKers are examining a wooden MIG-3 CBK made in Huddersfield!

A new addition the Douglas Invader having not made it to SMW

Cosford being a on such a large site has the advantage of being a much more relaxed show (though require plenty of walking if you want to get round it all). As the museum is open to the public we get a much wider range of visitors including a lot of children and it was a delight to see the display put a lot of smiles on faces.

Rather worryingly our display of early space tech proved of some interest to the Empire!

Ten all new builds made it to Scale Model World 2012, and they were (literally) bigger and better than last years crop.

Thank you to all those people who stopped by to give us kind comments and have a chat, it was a pleasure to meet you all.

We will be taking this on the road as before and hope to have a couple of extra builds that didn't make SMW due to a minor issue of a hurricane. We hop to be again at Huddersfield, Shropshire and Farnborough shows in 2013.

I wondered in, eventually, after having to catching several trains, and let them free to go for a wonder. They were already tired from a busy start of the day. Despite our pitch being at down the end of a row we caught people's attention and had steady traffic throughout the day. It was glorious weather outside and as well as modellers there were the general public who had visited the museum and got the added bonus of a free model show. Also a massive biker's rally on the airfield swelled numbers still further.

The light and airy surroundings made for a really pleasant show and it was well past the official end of the show before we packed up.

Alan buzzing with excitement contacted IPMS Farnborough and we can now confirm that Classic Box Art display will be making a final appearance at Modelfest 2012 on the 22nd September.CBKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06155501166734809186noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6489286954729844336.post-4832698087565396702012-03-27T21:49:00.005+01:002012-03-27T21:55:54.259+01:00Huddersfield done Cosford to go!An extremely busy Huddersfield show proved a great success despite cramming most of the models into half the display space we had at Telford.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9CJ9Ejz26q2f-8XgTJBgHADkYR3SIDnZYsm_wY9ZxQs9KifDzbYcKacdPQoCAeXSGxc68yu6331RuDyIkAHLWfROFNRiKfMOg10E9bWMLl9uK0fYxkKuo3PUa5LKeIQWTCFM-iV3joQGL/s320/NMS_Hudds_2012-01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5724682542024705634" />

You can catch us again for our first Shropshire Modeller's Show held at the RAF Museum Cosford this Sunday April 1st ... honest we will be there!CBKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06155501166734809186noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6489286954729844336.post-58881592086021842032011-12-24T13:18:00.004+00:002011-12-24T13:20:55.706+00:00Classi British Box Art in SAMIJanuary 2012 (Vol18 No1) issue of Scale Aviation Modeller International contains a full report of our success Classic British Box Art display at Scale Model World in Telford. The new forum is hosted by the UAMF which means we have much more control over it and can add new features more easily. An effort has been made to keep the same look and feel of the old Forumer based site so everything should seem familiar. The UAMF URL http://uamf.org.uk now points to the new site which will be open for new registrations from the 1st May. The old site will be kept open until 1st June at which point it will be frozen and maintained as an archive of our old posts, http://gregers.7.forumer.com.

A huge effort has been made by many UAMF members to copy over important information from the old forum and the new site features a comprehensive Hints&Tips FAQ covering all areas of model making.

CBKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06155501166734809186noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6489286954729844336.post-74819438890347183362011-04-06T17:15:00.003+01:002011-04-06T17:19:11.215+01:00UAMF Up and RunningAs of this morning UK time it looks like the UAMF server is back up and running. The column represents a new venture for SAMI – a section especially devoted to classic kits. Each month, I’ll be taking a look at the world of classic kits, with, I hope, the help of my friends at the UAMF, and at the Classic British Kits SIGS, both UK and US branches. It is my hope that this column will resonate with you, the membership, as many of us started our hobby building the type of kits I intend to feature in Classic Plastic.

This is wonderful news for those of us who don't believe that raised panel lines renders a kit unbuildable and enjoy building simple kits that don't come broken into 500 parts so every version can be catered for. It represents a great investment by SAMI in a large part of the hobby community that is more than happy to build classic kits whether from their stash or in new boxings.

If you have just found us after reading the first part of "Classic Plastic" then welcome and feel free to let us know what you think. If you'd like to get involved and have a passion for British kits I would like to invite you to sign up to the CBK, further details in the side panel.

As Paul states CBK and UAMF members will be involved in future articles but classic kits of all nationalities are suitable subject matter, so if Heller Cadets or old Aurora biplanes are your thing get in touch with Paul (paul AT sampublications.com). You can read more from Paul about what is planned for future issues here.CBKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06155501166734809186noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6489286954729844336.post-15995255452856397462011-02-21T21:20:00.002+00:002011-03-26T21:28:44.376+00:00Huddersfield Northern Model Show 2010The CBK SIG put rolled out the 101 GEMS display for the Huddersfield Model Show on the 20th Feb 2011. We were very busy with a lots of punters taking delight at the display. You could watch them mentally ticking off which kits they had built and we got many compliments on the concept of the display. A nice thing was that it proved popular with several partners who commented on what a lovely display we had.

The flyers we produce that contained a mini-timeline proved very popular, almost everyone who looked at one took it away with them. I think we should have added check boxes so people could tick off their own builds. We gave away the last of 300 on Sunday about three so I think we got the numbers perfect.

Thanks to everyone who came up and said hello. CBK members have voted for the best kits from each manufacturer. Kits that even though they may be 30 years old are still very much worth building today. Two of members having a miserable time after breaking down on the way. I got their text before I left the house and imagined spending the day sat behind the dozen kits which I had. Thankfully Bruce made it!

A number of SIGs/Branches and traders failed to make including Aeroclub and Kits Kits. I think there were about 15-20% missing. Unfortunately the weather, which stopped snowing and had started to melt by 11am, had a much bigger impact on visitor numbers. These were well done on last year (which was very successful) and I hope don't jeopardise future events!

Bruce and I however mange to fill the table (~6' wide by 5' deep) nicely, the plinth I'd built turned out to the idea size. I have to say from the start of the day till it started to run down at 3.30pm we had a steady stream of interested punters who wanted to share their memories and revel in the days of classic modelling - we even influenced Rob Monfea who came back to show us his newly purchased Novo boxing of the Swordfish. The leaflets proved popular and I think we've encouraged more than a few to have a look at the website.

It was also great to meet Jamyz Hatstand and Mafoo_white who were encouraged to add a few Frogs to the Tamigawa purchases - a couple of donated kits found their way into their eager mitts, new disciples!

As you may know the the lighting at Hudds is not great for taking pics and I only had time to capture our stand.

Thanks to anyone who managed to came along to have chat glad you enjoyed the display and I hope we've encouraged a few of you to finally get them Frogs built!CBKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06155501166734809186noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6489286954729844336.post-65423064029314943572010-01-31T18:56:00.004+00:002010-06-10T13:48:16.653+01:00Airfix Bristol Blenheim Group BuildNow underway on the UMAF is a group build of the venerable Airfix 1/72 Bristol Blenheim. Frog was one of the innovators of plastic modelling and though the company disappeared in 1976 their kits turn up regularly in new boxes from Revell and many East European manufacturers.

The display showed the depth and breadth of the the subject produced by Frog from the unique Firefly dingy to the highly collectable V-bomber force. Many of Frog's original concepts the were demonstrated from Spin-a-prop motors to multiple markings and Skybases. Other topics covered included Fleet Air Arm, The Trailblazer series and ships of all types!

The display looked very professional and the table was busy both days of the show, maybe something to do with the free sweets. Much time was spent enjoyably by CBK members talking to visitors about their memories of Frog kits and hopefully encouraging them to go and build them again.

CBKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06155501166734809186noreply@blogger.com1
